Description
This system is designed to provide stable, hands-free retraction of organs, most commonly the liver, during surgical procedures.
Key Components:
-
Support Stand/Post: A vertical, sturdy metal pole that forms the base of the system, providing stability on or near the operating table.
-
Fixation Clamp/Mount: A component attached to the vertical post that holds the retractor arm. It usually has a handle or lever for securing the arm’s position.
-
Flexible/Articulating Arm (Mediflex branding visible): This is the core of the system. It consists of multiple interlocking segments that can be bent and positioned into a specific shape. Once the position is set, a locking mechanism (often a tension screw or lever near the fixation clamp) is engaged to make the arm rigid and maintain the retraction force.
-
Retractor Blades/Hooks: The working end of the system. The image shows two types:
-
Hook/Wire Retractor: A simple, curved metal wire (U-shaped or L-shaped) designed for gentle retraction and lifting of soft tissue, such as the liver edge.
-
Suction Cup Retractor: A retractor that utilizes a suction cup (visible on the lower arm) to adhere to and retract larger, smoother surfaces, like the dome of the liver.
